Educational Aide (Special Education and/or Preschool)
Supervisor: Department Supervisor and/or Principal/Designee
Summary/Objective: Assist the classroom teacher in meeting the day-to-day needs of the student(s).
Minimum Qualifications:
- 18 years of age
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Hold or be able to obtain a valid Educational Aide Permit from the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) with Elementary Secondary Education Act (ESEA) Qualified Endorsement
- Ohio BCI and Federal Background check free of disqualifying infractions
- Comply with drug-free workplace rules and board policies
- Participate (and pass where applicable) in all required training, including but not limited to: Bloodborne Pathogens, Crisis Intervention, Educator Ethics, etc.
- Embody high ethical standards, integrity, and accept responsibility for decisions and conduct
Essential Functions:
- Monitor and assist student(s) as needed in classroom routines
- Assists teacher with implementation of student individual education plan(s)
- Assists student(s) with mobility, physical, and clothing needs such as positioning, feeding, toileting, diapering, and getting on and off transportation vehicles as needed
- Assists in maintaining a conducive learning environment free of health and safety hazards
- Works with student(s) both individually and in small groups to promote learning and skills initially introduced by the teacher
- Efficiently operate Google Applications including Gmail, Drive, Sheets, Docs, etc.
- Assists student(s) in health related procedures such as clean intermittent catheterization, tube feeding, etc.
- Initiate and follow through with behavioral interventions as appropriate
- Communicate regularly with the classroom teacher regarding student progress, behavior or individual needs
- Participate in multidisciplinary and trans-disciplinary meetings as necessary
- Accompany, assist, and monitor student(s), as needed, in all other areas of the school program outside of the classroom (vocational, community, co-curricular, inclusion settings)
- Maintain confidentiality of student information
- Perform other specific duties as assigned

- Operate and/or ride in a vehicle
- Work at various heights, in confined spaces, and/or invariable/diminished lighting
- Report misconduct or violations of policy and procedures to the direct supervisor, appropriate administrator or legal authority (mandated reporting)
